  • Determine when your former employer health insurance will expire
  • Review the Cobra benefit options
  • Apply for individual health coverage if uninsured
  • Find out when health coverage starts and supplement until covered, if starting a new job 

Insurance considerations

  • Review Life Insurance for adequate coverage
  • Review Disability Insurance
  • Review Long-Term Care Insurance
  • Review beneficiary designations on insurance policies

Financial considerations

  • Create a monthly budget to reflect changes in income
  • Review current debt obligations for rate, term, and consolidation options
  • Start direct deposit at new employer

Investment planning

  • Review liquidity needs
  • Review risk tolerance
  • Review investment goals
  • Review asset allocation

Retirement planning

  • Sign up for retirement plan if available through new employer
