Macatawa Bank Announces Emergency Fund Grant Essay Contest Winners
HOLLAND, Mich., May 16, 2013 – Macatawa Bank launched a new award program to encourage financial literacy for area High school students in March.
Students from 61 West Michigan high schools were encouraged to participate in the “Emergency Fund Grant” Essay Contest. The program was open to students taking the Dave Ramsey Foundation Financial Literacy course, sponsored by Macatawa Bank at public, charter and private high schools in Kent, Ottawa and Allegan counties.
Three hundred and ten essays were submitted from students at 24 high schools who wrote an essay addressing one of three questions drawing from the principles learned in their Ramsey course: describing the most valuable thing they have learned, advice they would give to a younger brother or sister about money or how they are going to apply key principles learned in class to their future lives.
“It was rewarding for the Bank to read through the essays and see how much the students have learned through their Foundations in Personal Finance classes,” said Christine Bart, Macatawa Bank Marketing Director. “We are proud to sponsor the curriculum and really value the teachers’ efforts in the classroom in teaching the students lessons that will better prepare them for life.”
Each of the following ten winners (listed in no particular order) will be awarded a $500 Emergency Fund Grant:
