Macatawa Bank Concludes Successful Food Drive

Employee & Customers Donate More than 7,800 Items to Local Charities

Holland, Michigan, December 20, 2012 – Macatawa Bank has wrapped up its Fill-a-Plate Holiday Food Drive, collecting more than 7,800 items to benefit West Michigan food banks and other charities.

Nearly 30 non-profits from around the region benefited from the friendly competition, which encouraged employees and customers of the Holland-based community bank to collect non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products.  Each of the three floors of the corporate headquarters, along with each branch, selected a local charity to receive their food donations.

Food drive winners are:

·       Lakeshore region:  Douglas branch collecting for Christian Neighbors

·       Grand Rapids region:  Rockford branch collecting for North Kent Community Service

·       Third floor of Macatawa’s corporate headquarters.  All told, the corporate staff collected more than 5,700 food items for the Holland Rescue Mission, Community Action House and His Harvest Stand.

The bank will also give $145 to a local food bank in response to a Facebook “contest” that rewarded each new “like” on its page (facebook.com/MacatawaBank) with a $1 donation.

“We were overwhelmed by the strong response we received to our Fill-a-Plate Holiday Food Drive and plan to continue this new tradition next year,” said Chris Bart, vice president of marketing at Macatawa Bank.  “Our local food pantries have told us that the need they see is double what it was just a few years ago.  As West Michigan’s leading community bank, we are very pleased to be able to assist those less fortunate this holiday season.”
